Situation: A bedroom that had become the default dumping ground for all things that would not fit in the closet, the spare bedroom or other areas within the home. This challenge was partially a result of other rooms in the house not functioning: specifically the home office.
When papers had to be stored, the only area to store them was the bedroom. Additionally, the closets in this bedroom were overstuffed and could not hold the extra clothes or linens.
Challenge: Creating space in other areas of the home to store the items that were not related to the bedroom. There was also wall-to-wall furniture surrounding the parameters of the room.
Solution: We spent time getting rid of the wall to wall furniture and other unnecessary and unrelated bedroom items. We then sent them off to a charity in need.
I removed the excess furniture and moved the remaining furniture into a more user friendly and space saving configuration. We also created a sustainable home office in another room that provided a place to move the important papers.
We purged and organized the two large closets in this bedroom so that clothes and other keepsakes had a space to live.
Unbelieveable. We took a lot of things out of our home and took them to an auction. We made very good money and it isn’t crowded or cluttered anymore.
Good job taking the bull by the horns and getting your stuff gone! Auction is a great idea. Would you like to tell everyone how you did it and what it was like? I think many folks would be interested in the process.
If you want to share more, we would love to hear how the auction idea actually works.
Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Just wanted to tell you that in January I went through and made some hard decisions about decluttering and just getting rid of things from furniture to knick knacks, pictures, dishes, etc. We took a trailer load plus the back end of a Suburban to an auction house. I had arranged the date with the auctioneer before hand. There was a lot of things but they were all used. After paying fees to the auctioneer, we received just a little under $1000.00. I don’t miss anything. One has to give up control of how much one thinks the possessions are worth. I believe it’s all “stuff” and “stuff” is meant to be passed on.
Helen,
That is great information for every reader and you did such an amazing job! Good things will surely accelerate in your life as a result of your releasing old items that no longer served you. Make sure to recognize your new blessings as they occur!
Congratulations!
I love before/after pix. I hope it stays this way. Keeping it organized can be the most difficult part, but you’ve got skin in the game!
