I have an upcoming end of school prom – I have chosen a floor length A-line dress but now the only problem left is what color. I want a color that will make me look elegant, not too bright, but one that also compliments my skin color. I’m Mediterranean so have a golden/olive skin tone – I have thought about pastel colors but I think I would prefer a darker color such as navy/dark purple. Please help!

Hi Elena,

Your intuition about pastels is correct. They are not that great for olive complexions. You should choose a warm, rich color. If your hair is black, navy or purple would work well but if your hair is light brown or blonde, you might choose something not as dark.

As you can see in this picture in the picture below, pastels work well for fair complexions but would not be nearly as attractive combined with an olive complexion.
