If you find that you’re always buying clothes that you never wear, an Image Consultant can actually save you a lot of money. She will evaluate your body shape and coloring and find those clothes that, in the words of the old song, help “accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative.” Once you understand what kind of clothes work for you, you’ll be able to buy the right clothes the first time around.

Since most people wear only 20% of the clothes in their closet, a good Image Consultant will start by going through your wardrobe and getting rid of all those clothes that don’t fit or are the wrong shape or color for you. If you haven’t worn something for the last six months to a year, it’s probably a good candidate for donation. Quick trips to the tailor and the dry cleaner can put back into circulation those clothes that look great on you, but have been neglected because they were in disrepair.

Once you’ve created more space in your closet, it’s time to go shopping! Your consultant will design a basic color palette for you that fits your new image and then “pre-shop” to find the clothes best for you. When you’re ready to go shopping with the consultant, she’ll help you choose those pieces that you can mix-and-match to come up with a wide variety of outfits. One of the keys to shopping is to not buy anything unless it has the “wow” factor. If people say “wow” when they see you, you know you’ve chosen wisely.

Once you’ve learned the basics of putting together the best wardrobe for your image, you’ll be able to buy with confidence in the future, and instead of letting your clothes languish in the back of your closet, you can get your money’s worth from each and every piece.

Of course, there’s more to what an Image Consultant can do than just upgrading your wardrobe. She can improve on those other important aspects of your appearance such as hair and make-up, and even tend to your optical needs.

When choosing an Image Consultant, you may want to ask her for references from previous clients. If they give you positive feedback, you can be confident that you’ve hired one of the best in the business. Of course, not all image consultants do things in the same way. Some may stay with you each step of the way, while others may refer you to the best specialist in each area. But they all share in the goal of making you look and feel your very best, so you can be sure that your decision to hire an Image Consultant will be a great investment in your future.
