Are you planning an alternative Trunk'nTreat Halloween celebration for kids and families this year?
For neighborhoods that aren't conducive to sidewalk trick and treating, Trunk’nTreat parties are a safe, fun alternative to Halloween.
I found a great article on WikiHow that provided good tips for planning this type of celebration and thought that I would add my two cents and share it with you.
Families join together to host a small mini-carnival now known as Trunk'nTreat celebrations. This is an easy way to create an alternative activity for this year’s Halloween.
Adults organize and prepare booths that children can walk around to, play games, and receive prizes/candy.
You can easily organize this effort by following these 9 steps:
1. Find a venue that will hold your anticipated crowd.
For instance is there lighting, parking and wide lanes to walk within. Do you need to get a permit to close down a part of your neighborhood block?
2. Recruit friends and volunteers
These allies will help you with parking arrangements if necessary and help you set up booths and oversee group activities.
3. Determine what type of games will work the best
Depending on your space and your resources, you might want to set up bean bag games, a space for art projects and possibly have a table for face painting or hire a balloon artist.
4. Make a sign for each game
Each sign should explain guidelines and prizes. You can use simple graphics to depict end goal. For instance: 3 ball hits = 1 bag of candy corn
5. Decide if the children will receive when they participate
Are you giving away grab bags, prizes or candy? Candy is the easiest choice but you could assign one of your volunteers to make grab bags or determine what prizes are awarded for each game.
6. Each booth should plan on providing treats
Decide in advance how many kids will probably attend and make sure that each booth has enough treats for each child to earn a treat/prize for participating.
7. Get entertainers to appear at designated times
One of your volunteers can set up the schedule and coordinate the hired talent.
8. Make sure that everyone knows the guidelines for the booths and other entries
For instance will the bicycles / cars be lighted or simply decorated. Also decide in advance if trucks and vans are acceptable or simply bicycles.
9. Decide in advance the age of the children that will be involved
This will help you determine and also inform attendees whether loud or scary noises are acceptable.
