Arthelle Neville: Well welcome back guys. You’re getting ready to go to Grandma’s house, over the river and through the woods to Grandma’s house we go. Yeah, but you’ve got to bring stuff with you, traveling very tricky and if you have to pack, forget about it. I’m actually pretty decent at it, but Kathi Burns is really an expert and she’s going to show us how to pack and stay organized for this holiday trip. So first, good morning and thanks for being here.
Kathi: Thank you so much.
Arthelle Neville: What is the first thing you need to know how to do?
Kathi: Well you want to have a list, for sure.
Arthelle Neville: Yeah.
Kathi: When you have a list what you want to do is make sure that on your list the clothes that you choose are all one color pallet so that everything will go together. So brown, navy, or black so that everything will work together and then whenever you pull things out you can actually make them match.
Arthelle Neville: Good idea.
Kathi: You pack a lot less.
Arthelle Neville: Absolutely. And it’s all in the folding right?
Kathi: Absolutely. There’s a thing called…there’s numerous techniques. This is called bundle folding. And this is a brillant thing for people who don’t want to spend a lot of time folding but you know, it’s all about the wrinkles, right?
Arthelle Neville: Yeah.
Kathi: So wrinkles [inaudible] you want to avoid wrinkles at all costs, so I’m going to show you just a real quick technique, it is called bundle folding. It’s easy, it’s effortless. You use your core, you use something for your core piece, you start with your pants and fold them in.
Arthelle Neville: The pants go on top last because they’re heavier…
Kathi: Yes, exactly.
Arthelle Neville: Okay, got it.
Kathi: And then the shirt that’s going to get the most wrinkles goes on the very bottom, okay? You go like this, you go like this and there’s your bundle fold, okay? So what you do is you come over and that’s the core of your suitcase. Now the key for bundle folding, you have a bundle fold item in here, is that you really need to secure it because it doesn’t want to slip around, and then you pack everything around this.
Arthelle Neville: That is really clever.
Kathi: So with your shoes, or course, you can stuff your shoes and that helps them keep their form.
Arthelle Neville: Right, so you put your stockings, your undies, leggings, gloves possibly if you need to pack extra.
Kathi: Exactly, right in here and then you can tuck your other things and put your heavy items on the bottom, make sure that you fold it up. Now another key if you don’t like the bundle fold idea is you can use dry cleaning bags because the dry cleaning bags have the air in this, helps to keep from getting wrinkles so you can also use the dry cleaning bag as an alternative.
Arthelle Neville: That’s good, a good way to recycle these because you never know what to do with them, so that’s good.
Kathi: Exactly, and then if you’re going from a warm to a cold place you’re going to wear your coat and then you’re going to have…you’re going to have your coat. If you want you can even carry your insulated lining and zip it in right as you arrive at your destination and then you pull out from your front pocket your gloves, your scarf, it’s right here so you can put it on before you go out into the cold Minnesota air or wherever you’re going to be going for the winter.
Arthelle Neville: That’s right. Absolutely, well that is really good and it doesn’t take you long to do that and if you want to find some more information this you can go to addspacetoyourlife.com and you’re also giving away something, right?
Kathi: I’m giving away a free travel checklist. If you want to get really organized email [email protected] and I’ll send you the travel checklist to help you get your holidays more organized and your packing less stressful.
Arthelle Neville: You made it look very easy! I didn’t know about this bundle packing, what is it called.
Kathi: Bundle folding, it’s very easy.
Arthelle Neville: I’m going to use that. Well thank you Kathi Burns, it was so quick! We’re done!
Kathi: We’re done!
Arthelle Neville: I love that. Okay, well you have a happy, happy holiday season and safe travels.
Kathi: Thank you very much.
Arthelle Neville: Alright, Chrissy….
Chrissy: Thank you very much ladies…
