If you are considering hiring an organizer to help you with your home or business, you should consider their credentialing and training before you make your decision. Just like any other industry, it pays to do your research in advance before you begin a new relationship.

The professional organizing industry has national associations and certification programs.

The National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) is the US association. The Board Certification and credentialing program is called the Board Certification for Professional Organizers (BCPO).

The National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) is a group of approximately 4,000 professional organizers dedicated to helping individuals and businesses bring order and efficiency to their lives.

The NAPO vision is to have the world recognize the value of organizing and turn to NAPO as the leading organizing authority. The NAPO mission is to develop, lead, and promote professional organizers and the organizing industry. I became a member of NAPO in 2004.

addSpace To Your Life! is a member of NAPO’s Golden Circle. NAPO Professional Members who have worked as a professional organizer for 5 or more years and have been a NAPO member for at least one year are eligible for the prestigious Golden Circle designation.

To become a Board Certified CPO, a professional organizer must agree to adhere to the Certified Professional Organizers Code of Ethics and have at least 1500 hours serving clients within the past 3 years and a knowledge base to pass the comprehensive 3 hour examination.

The Certified Professional Organizer® (CPO®) credential recognizes professionals who have met specific standards and proven, through examination and client interaction, that they possess the body of knowledge and experience required to help clients learn sustainable skills.

In 2007, I became one of the inaugural class of CPO’s and for the last 12 years I have been serving clients across the US by helping them eliminate and organize their home, life and work.

If you live in Canada, you can find a qualified professional organizer (POC) at this website.
