Hi Kathi,
I was curious if you could give a starting point for someone who is disorganized top to bottom, side to side, and any other way imaginable? I understand the concept of getting organized and made attempts but have failed. I feel like I am starting a marathon without any training. Where should I start my training?
Cassandra
Hi Cassandra,
Start clearing the area that makes you the most crazy. Add space by eliminating anything in your home that you don’t use or love. If you are serious about getting organized, my online course Home Organizing Made Simple will lead you through your home room by room with videos and tactics to keep you going. You will see marked progress every step of the way.
During the beginning of the course we will delve into where you are now and how you got there. This will help you get a big picture view of your life long habits so that you can begin to make progress and sort out how to stay organize once and for all!
Whether you decide to take my course or not, the best way to get organized is to take small steps each day to create order.
Letting go of anything in your home that is not used or loved is a good starting point. Take a box and walk room by room. Put anything that is not used or loved in it and take it to your closest donation facility.
Letting go is a muscle and if you are disorganized, you probably have the tendency to hold onto items that you don’t really use but might “need one day”. Does this ring true for you? Once you start letting go of the things you don’t need now, it will become easier and easier to eliminate this extra clutter.
The most important thing is just to get started. Like anything in life, you have to take it one step at a time. Getting started with the Home Organizing Made Simple course will help you make progress every week. Practice being mindful every day of what you need, what you don’t, and what you are bringing into the house. Slowly but surely, you’ll start developing new habits.
