Maintaining an organized home, is what I like to call keeping your home at ‘zero’,

When your home is at ‘zero’, everything has a designated home and all things are put away unless they are in use. We all know that this is rarely the case, but keep in mind, that organizing is always an ongoing process. The great news is that the more organized your home is, the less time it takes to get it back to ‘zero’.

Once your home is organized, in order to keep it that way, you need to be diligent about four things:

1. Put items back from where they came every time you are done with them.

2. Do not bring anything new into your home unless it has a purpose and you know where it will ‘live’. Protect your new found space with constant attention and smart decisions. If you cannot figure out how the object will fit or where it will live once in your home, do not bring it into your home. If it is a replacement item, put the item it replaces immediately into your donation bin.

3. Make sure that you maintain enough space around the designated ‘home’ for each item.
When every ‘home’ has room around it, you will never have to go through a major purging or organizing process again!

4. Make sure to always have a donation box located somewhere within your house. This way, as you go through life and find things you no longer want, use or love, you can quickly put them where they belong – OUTBOUND! Take your donations to charity as soon as your box is full and bring back the empty box to begin again.
